How to Add All WhatsApp Group Members to Contacts (3 Working Methods)

You run a WhatsApp group — a class, a team, a community — and you want every member saved in your phone contacts. You open the group looking for an “add all” button. It isn’t there, and it never has been. WhatsApp simply doesn’t offer one.

That doesn’t mean you’re stuck tapping through hundreds of profiles one by one. Here are the three methods that actually work, starting with the simplest.

In this guide:

Method 1: Add members one by one in WhatsApp

This is the official way, and for a small group it’s the fastest honest answer.

  1. Open the group and tap its name at the top to open Group Info.
  2. Scroll to the participant list and tap the person you want to save.
  3. Tap Add to contacts (on iPhone, tap Create New Contact; on Android, Add to contacts).
  4. Check the name and number, then save. Repeat for the next person.

It works, it’s safe, and nothing leaves your phone. The downside is obvious: it’s one tap per person. For a group of 15 it’s fine. For a group of 200, skip to Method 2.

Method 2: Import them all at once with a contacts file

This is the bulk route. The idea is simple: get the member list into a file your phone’s contacts app can import in one go, instead of saving people one at a time.

Step 1 — Copy the member list. On WhatsApp Web (web.whatsapp.com), open the group, click its name, and you’ll see the full participant list. Copy the names and numbers into a spreadsheet, one person per row, with two columns: Name and Phone. Include the country code on every number (for example, +353 for Ireland) — numbers without a country code are the most common reason an import misfires.

Step 2 — Clean the list. Delete your own entry, delete duplicates, and fix any name that is just a number. What you see is what you get: a member whose number is hidden from you by their privacy settings won’t appear, and names will be whatever WhatsApp displays for each person.

Step 3 — Import it.

  • Android / Google Contacts: Go to Google Contacts (contacts.google.com) → Import → choose your spreadsheet file (CSV). The contacts sync to your phone automatically.
  • iPhone: Import works with vCard (.vcf) files, not CSV. Convert your spreadsheet to a .vcf first — Google Contacts can do this for you (import the CSV there, select all, Export → vCard), or use any reputable CSV-to-vCard converter. Then open the .vcf file on your iPhone and tap Add All Contacts.

That’s it — the whole group lands in your contacts in one import. One caution: importing twice creates duplicates, so if you run the import again later, import only the new members, not the full list again.

Method 3: Third-party “add all” apps — read this before you install one

Search for this problem and you’ll find apps promising to add every group member in one tap. Some do roughly what Method 2 does, wrapped in an app. Before you install one, know the trade-offs:

  • It needs deep access. To read your groups, an app typically wants broad permissions or your WhatsApp session. That is a lot of trust to hand to an app you found in a search result.
  • WhatsApp doesn’t bless this. Automating WhatsApp or scraping its data breaks WhatsApp’s terms, and accounts have been restricted for it. An app doing this for you puts your number at risk, not theirs.
  • Your contacts are the product in disguise. An app that harvests group members’ numbers can keep, share or sell them. Check what the app actually does with the data, read recent reviews (not just the rating), and never pay upfront for one.

Our honest take: Method 2 does the same job with tools you already trust (Google Contacts, your phone’s own contacts app), and it keeps everyone’s numbers on your devices only. Use a third-party app only if you understand exactly what access you’re granting and you’re comfortable with it.

What won’t transfer, and what to check before you import

  • Hidden numbers stay hidden. If a member has set their number so non-contacts can’t see it, you can’t save what you can’t see. Nothing fixes that, and no app legitimately can.
  • Names are display names. Someone saved as “Mohammed” in the group arrives as “Mohammed” in your contacts. Rename the ones that matter after import.
  • Admins and members are treated the same. Being a group admin gives you no extra export power.
  • Nobody gets notified. Saving someone to your contacts doesn’t send them anything or tell them you did it.
  • Big groups work too, slowly. WhatsApp groups can hold over 1,000 members. The file method handles that fine; the one-by-one method will test your patience.

FAQ

Why doesn’t WhatsApp just add an “add all” button?

WhatsApp has never offered one. Group membership and your personal contacts are kept separate by design, so saving members is deliberately a per-person action inside the app.

Will group members know I’ve saved their numbers?

No. Adding someone to your phone contacts sends no notification and leaves no trace in the group.

What if a member’s number doesn’t show in the group?

Then their privacy settings hide it from you, and you can’t save it. Ask them for it directly, or wait until they’ve saved you back.

Can I do this without installing any app?

Yes — that’s Method 2. WhatsApp Web, a spreadsheet, and Google Contacts or your phone’s contacts app are all you need.

Does this work for large groups?

Yes, via the file import. The manual method works at any size too, but the time it takes grows with every member.

Will importing create duplicates?

It can, if you import the same people twice. Import the full list once, then only new members after that. Both Google Contacts and iPhone offer a merge/duplicate check if it happens.

Is it legal to save group members to my contacts?

Saving numbers you can already see, for your own personal use, is normal contact management. Bulk-harvesting other people’s numbers to sell or share them is a different matter — don’t.
